Action around the world

Mike Conway wrapped up the British Formula 3 Championship at the weekend at Silverstone to give the Raikkonen Robertson Racing organisation its first title. Conway won the title with a dominant display which saw two pole positions, two race wins and two fastest laps.

Over in the United States the Chase to the NASCAR Nextel Cup is providing some upsets with series leader Kevin Harvick plummeting to fifth in the points standings after an engine failure at Dover, Delaware. The race was won by his Richard Childress Racing team mate Jeff Burton, who now takes the lead in the championship by six points from Jeff Gordon, while Matt Kenseth and rookie Denny Hamlin are close behind.

Sebastien Bourdais failed to wrap up his third consecutive Champ Car title because of bad luck at Road America where he was the dominant force until a late-race caution and a different fuel strategy gave AJ Allmendinger the chance to keep his title hopes alive, although he remains 58 points down with two races remaining. Bourdais finished third behind his Newman Haas Racing team mate Bruno Junqueira.

The DTM was in Barcelona where Martin Tomczyk scored his first series victory at the wheel of an Audi while in the Formula 3 Eurocup there was a win for Sebastian Vettel in the first of the two races while in the second there was an upset as Eddie Cheever's nephew Richard Antinucci (HBR Motorsport) managed to win ahead of Charlie Kimball (Signature-Plus). Points leader Paul di Resta (ASM) scored only one championship point after finishing sixth, while Vettel retired after a collision. With four races to go di Resta leads Vettel by just four points.
