Action across the world

Kasey Kahne won the NASCAR Nextel Cup race on Sunday at California Speedway giving Dodge a much-needed victory. Dale Earnhardt Jr was second ahead of Clint Bowyer. Seventh-placed Matt Kenseth moved into the lead in the Nextel Cup overtaking Jimmie Johnson, who finished only 11th.

At Zandvoort in Holland Denmark's Tom Kristensen scored his second DTM victory of the season in his Audi beating points leader Bernd Schneider (Mercedes-Benz) and Audi's Martin Tomczyk. Kristensen thus reduced Schneider's lead in the championship to 10 points, with another three rounds to go.

The Formula 3 Euroseries were in action as well with a 78,500 crowd watching Paul di Resta (ASM Formule 3) winning the first race ahead of local hero Giedo van der Garde (ASM Formule 3) with Kohei Hirate of Manor Motorsport third.

In the second race America's Charlie Kimball (Signature-Plus) scored his first European F3 victory ahead of Sebastian Vettel (ASM Formule 3) and Kazuki Nakajima (Manor Motorsport). Both Vettel and Kimball were on slick tyres on a drying track and moved ahead of those who decided to start on wet tyres. The first laps of the race were tough for both men but in the end the track dried and they worked their way through the field. Despite the pressure from Vettel Kimball held on to win.
