JULY 24, 2006
On Friday a commemorative plaque was unveiled at the Norisring on the site of Pedro Rodriguez's fatal accident in an Interseries race in July 1971. Among those who attended the event was former F1 star Heinz-Harald Frentzen.
Rodriguez was a top F1 driver in the late 1960s, winning the 1967 South African Grand Prix, while at the same time being a major player in sports cars with Gulf Porsche. He was killed in a Ferrari sports car at Norising when the car went out of control, probably from a suspension failure.
