Zander leaves Williams

Jorg Zander, the chief designer at Williams for the last seven months has left the team unexpectedly but there is no signs of any problem with the team, rather that Zander felt the need to move for personal reasons. Zander has been working in Britain for three years, having joined BAR from Toyota back in 2003. He worked in his native Germany before then initially with Team Rosberg but from 1997 with Toyota in Cologne.

Williams says that it has no immediate plans to replace Zander as the structures now in place mean that the various design teams can operate as they are reporting for the moment to technical director Sam Michael.

Zander had little actual input in the design of the current car because he arrived too late in the design process and is leaving before the design process of the new car begins.
