Big plans at the Nurburgring

Hockenheim may be struggling but over at the Nurburgring things are going rather better, at least according to Walter Kafitz, the managing director of the circuit. Kafitz has told a German newspaper that there are plans for A $200m expansion project for the track facilities which will include a holiday village, a four star hotel, VIP boxes and a new grandstand complete with shops along a boulevard, not to mention some more facilities for teams to operate from.

The funding is currently being put in place for the work and the necessary clearances being arranged with the local government. Much of the money is apparently coming from investors but it is not clear if these will involve public or private money. The ubiquitous Hermann Tilke will design the upgrades.
