A no-confidence vote at the BRDC

The board of the British Racing Drivers' Club is facing a vote of no confidence over the question of what the club should do to preserve the future of the British Grand Prix. The board, led by Sir Jackie Stewart, has proposed leasing the track to developer St Modwen to redevelop Silverstone but a group of dissidents within the club want the plan overturned. It is not clear what the dissidents want to do instead and for the moment they are not giving details.

The British Grand Prix is only secure until 2009 after which the race could leave Silverstone if the work needed is not undertaken. The problem for the Formula One group is that there is currently not another venue with the money or possibility to run the race.
