Penske moves to NASCAR country

Penske Racing, the second oldest team in the Indy Racing League, is moving its operational headquarters from Reading, Pennsylvania to Mooresville, North Carolina. Penske has been based in Reading since in 1973 after moving there from Philadelphia, where the team was established in 1966. The only team which has been around longer is AJ Foyt's operation in Texas, which began a year earlier. The IRL team will henceforth be based at the new Penske NASCAR facility, where the company will consolidate its three racing teams: NASCAR, IRL and the new sports car operations. The team will need to relocate around 90 people but it is not clear how many of them will make the move south. It remains to be seen whether this will have any effect on the competitiveness of the team, which will be using Honda engines next year in the IRL.
