Remembering Gonzalo Rodriguez

The fourth annual Winning Attitudes Award ceremony took place at Monza on Thursday evening with Formula 1 drivers Juan Pablo Montoya, Pedro de la Rosa, Fernando Alonso, Giancarlo Fisichella, Franck Montagny, Jenson Button, Takuma Sato, Nick Heidfeld, Antonio Pizzonia, Tiago Monteiro, Tonio Liuzzi, Christian Klien and Enrico Toccacelo joining the GP2 regulars at the event, which is held each year to remember Uruguayan driver Gonzalo Rodriguez, who was killed in a CART accident at Laguna Seca in September 1999. Rodriguez was a rising star who raced against many of the current generation of F1 drivers.

The awards are designed to keep the memory of Rodriguez alive and to draw attention to the rising stars of today.

Among the winners this year were Adam Carroll for the best driving style in GP2, Heikki Kovalainen as the driver of the year and Nico Rosberg for the best candidate for an F1 drive. The ART team won the best team of the year award and Adam Carroll took a second award for the best overtaking manoeuvre of the year.

A special award named after Rodriguez was awarded to the GP2 race director Charlie Whiting.
