Nick Hayes goes to NASCAR

Nick Hayes has been named as the engine research and development director of Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Nextel Cup. The former F1 engine designer left Cosworth last year after a decade as the chief designer of F1 engines.

"There are a number of factors that have contributed to my decision to move over the water to join RCR," said Hayes. "First and foremost, I have been immensely impressed with Richard Childress's clear vision looking forward and with his obvious desire to fight back to the front of all three NASCAR series. I have seen that kind of determination and focus before and it has always led to success. Having spent a few exploratory weeks at RCR, I can also genuinely say that I am really looking forward to working with all the guys at RCR. They are a great group of people, steeped with years of NASCAR experience yet very open and motivated to move forwards into the future."
