The legacy of Le Mans 1955

It may be 50 years since the Le Mans disaster but some of the legacy of that accident remain and this has been highlighted this week by the news that the DTM series has had to cancel the planned race on the streets of Avignon, in France, because French law bans all street racing except at Pau. Avignon had been scheduled to have a race in September as promoters felt that a big crowd would be attracted as local hero Jean Alesi would be driving one of the Mercedes cars.
