Renault in Istanbul

The Renault F1 team was busy yesterday, running a car on the streets of Istanbul. The event follows in the footsteps of similar demonstration runs in other European cities and featured Fernando Alonso doing seven laps of a circuit which was laid out around the area where the city's ancient hippodrome once stood. This immense construction has largely gone, leaving just a few ruins and monuments in a parkland area next to the famous Blue Mosque. The demonstration attracted 20,000 and included Alonso plus a variety of other famous Renault machines, including the first Renault F1 car, the Le Mans winning Renault Alpine A442 of 1978.
