Piquet to make a comeback!

Triple World Champion Nelson Piquet (52) has decided it is time to get back to racing and is to take up truck racing. Piquet will join Pedro Muffatto in Brazil's Formula Truck this season. There are nine races in the season. In part the plans are a publicity stunt for Piquet's business interests as he runs Brazil's biggest satellite-tracking company which helps freight companies keep track of their trucks but it also because Piquet still has the urge to compete. Nelson has not raced since 2001 when he took part in a South American Formula 3 race.

Piquet left F1 in 1991 and went to America but a serious accident in practice for the Indianapolis 500 left him with nasty leg injuries and he retired to Brazil although he has since been involved in promoting racing in Brazil and overseeing the career of his son Nelson Jr, who will be racing in GP2 this season in a team which is part-owned by his father.
