Speed aims for GP2 - and F1

American Scott Speed has had a great year in Europe, winning the German and Eurocup Formula Renault titles as part of his third season in the Red Bull Driver Search programme. Now Speed is setting his sights on GP2 and hopes to be testing for Red Bull Racing before the year is out. The 21-year-old from Manteca, California, has yet to announce his plans for 2005 and recently tested an Indy Racing League for Eddie Cheever.

"My plans have yet to be decided," Speed said, "but GP2 is looking like the biggest possibility. And, along with that, I am sure that I will be testing the Red Bull F1 car and getting ready for 06. But I don't know anything for sure yet."

Speed is not the only young American making an impression in Europe as his fellow Red Bull Driver Search winner Colin Fleming, a 20-year-old from San Diego, has also been making waves. Speed's team mate with the Motopark Academy team (and his flatmate in Salzburg, Austria) he was just beaten by Speed in the German Formula Renault series and finished third in the Eurocup. The chances are that he will race in the Renault V6 World Series in 2005 and hopes to move from there to GP2 in 2006.
