Mark Gillan's departure confirmed

Dr Mark Gillan, the head of vehicle performance at Red Bull Racing, is leaving shortly. He will take up the Sir George Edwards Chair in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Surrey in February. Sir George Edwards was an innovative aviation pioneer who died in 2003 and the position at the university is newly-created.

Gillan is a highly qualified engineer with a PhD from Queen's University Belfast), a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a chartered engineer. He has been working at Jaguar Racing for several years but prior to that was principal operational aerodynamicist at McLaren. Prior to that he was a lecturer at Queen's University and it seems that he has decided to adopt a quieter life in the realms of academia rather than running around the world after racing cars.
