Regis is promoted

Jacques Regis, who was rumoured to have been one of the men who might replace Max Mosley last summer, has been named as the man in charge of sorting out the World Rally Championship. Regis will also be a member of the FIA Senate. The move can be interpreted in many different ways but there are some in racing circles who will see it as Max Mosley calming the opposition. The WRC could, of course, prove to be a poisoned chalice for Regis as making the whole series work more effectively is not going to be easy. Having said that if Regis is successful he will strengthen his position as the man most likely to take over running the sport in the future.

The FIA World Council also voted through the F1 calendar, which is as we predicted this morning.
