Coulthard to join Race of Champions

David Coulthard and former World Rally Champion Colin McRae are to join the stars taking on Michael Schumacher, Sebastien Loeb and Jeff Gordon in the Race of Champions in December in Paris's Stade de France.

"Having watched the event with interest for many years, I am very much looking forward to competing against the entry of world-class contenders," said DC.

The event is being organized by the Monaco-based promotion agency International Media Productions which is headed by Fredrik Johnson and former rally star Michele Mouton. Amongst its other businesses IMP manages the career of rally driver Gilles Panizzi.

The company has yet to announce the full list of drivers for the event but it is anticipated that the cast will be the best ever, the switch of venue from the Canary Islands. In previous years it should be noted rally drivers have dominated the Race of Champions with the winners including Sebastien Loeb, Marcus Gronholm, Harri Rovanpera, Tommi Makkinen, Didier Auriol, McRae and Carlos Sainz. No racing driver has ever won the event but the Nations Cup competition has seen victory go to teams including Cristiano da Matta, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Fernando Alonso, Yvan Muller and JJ Lehto.
