Liuzzi to test for Sauber

The new Formula 3000 Champion Vitantonio Liuzzi met with Peter Sauber at Spa and is believed to have had a secret seat fitting with the Swiss team. It is anticipated that the Italian will be seen in one of the Swiss cars for a day of testing at Jerez after the Italian Grand Prix.

There have been rumours in recent weeks that Liuzzi is being lined up for a long-term deal with Ferrari and could spend the next couple of years at Sauber being prepared for a Ferrari role to replace Michael Schumacher at the end of 2006. Signing up Liuzzi would be a good step for Sauber as it seeks to reduce its engine bills at Ferrari and fights to keep hold of its Red Bull sponsorship at the moment. Liuzzi has been a Red Bull driver for his entire racing career.
