A1 is still out there

The organizers of the planned A1 Grand Prix series have popped up again with a display at the Farnborough International Air Show. The plans for the series are moving ahead and Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum says that negotiations are well-advanced for the sale of 24 national licences to competitors.

The series will announce its first 6 franchise holders in September which will coincide with the first of the actual racing cars coming off the production lines at Lola in Huntingdon.

There will be several test drivers for the cars, including former F1 test driver Stephen Watson, who is the general manager of the new Dubai-based series. Sheikh Maktoum is a leading member of the next generation of Dubai's ruling Al Maktoum family but is not directly linked to the plan for the state to buy into the Jordan F1 team.
