Regis says no to FIA presidency

Jacques Regis, the president of the Federation Francaise du Sport Automobile, told the French TV station TF1 on Sunday morning that he is not planning to stand for the FIA presidency in October 2005. Regis was the man who directed open criticism at Max Mosley in the days leading up to Mosley's decision to leave the job in October.

There are considerable differences of opinion about whether or not there was a conspiracy against Mosley but the machinations (or lack of them) are really not of any consequence now that Mosley has announced he is going. The important thing is to see what happens as the FIA tries to work out how it is going to deal with the Formula 1 teams and Bernie Ecclestone, the commercial boss of the sport, in the future.
