Mansell tries a Jordan at Silverstone

Nigel Mansell was out in a Jordan Grand Prix car on Monday at Silverstone, getting ready for a demonstration run he is going to do for the team when the Formula 1 cars come to London on Tuesday week. Mansell has agreed to be involved because he is launching a magazine about cars, bikes and boats with motorcycle racer Carl Fogarty and presumably the duo want to launch the magazine with a story about the 50-year-old former World Champion driving a modern F1 car.

Mansell said that it was good to be reunited with "the love of his life" and had thoroughly enjoyed his test at Silverstone. Mansell last drove an F1 car in December 1996 when he did a day and a half of testng with Jordan in Spain.

"Nigel was undoubtedly the fans' favourite all over the world and I was delighted when he accepted my invitation to drive a Jordan car on this special occasion. ÊI was a fan of Nigel's when we raced together in Formula 3 in the seventies and the total commitment and never-say-die attitude he showed throughout his racing career is what I have tried to follow at Jordan Grand Prix."
