Indianapolis goes for more improvements

Indianapolis Motor Speedway has bought 16 acres of land at the south end of the circuit and is clearing it to create more parking for the fans on race day. The work going on includes the demolition of old factories and a motel and these will be replaced by parking lots for both cars and bigger recreational vehicles, which will help to house more people during race weekends. The long-term aim, however, appears to be to develop the land with a new luxury hotel and convention centre, replacing the rundown industrial area that exists today. The Indianpolis authorities say that as part of the work there will be more pedestrian bridges to help crowds get into the circuit.
