Pantano heading for Super Nova Racing

Formula 1 aspirant Giorgio Pantano is on the verge of signing for Super Nova Racing, to have another crack at the FIA International Formula 3000 title. The Italian has been competing and winning in the series since 2001 when he raced for Team Astromega, winning the race at Monza but finishing only ninth in the championship that year. In 2002 he switched to Coloni Motorsport and won at Barcelona, Hockenheim and Spa and was runner-up to Sebastien Bourdais in the series. Unable to break into F1 and left in the lurch by a CART team Pantano returned to Formula 3000 in 2003 with Durango and added further victories in Barcelona and Magny-Cours and finished third in the series.

Pantano is understood to have several million dollars in sponsorship but it is not enough to get him an F1 drive and so it looks like Giorgio will be back in Formula 3000 again, looking to win the title with David Sears's team.
