Canada gets the money

According to Le Journal de Montreal, the Canadian Grand Prix promoter Normand Legault has succeeded in finding the support to allow the Canadian Grand Prix to continue next year. The deal is said to involve both the Canadian government and the provincial government of Quebec.

The deal is believed to be unlike any of the others as it is an 18th race and has only become possible because thye organizers agreed to pay $2m extra to each of the 10 teams. Race promoter Normand Legault is said to have found half the money with the Canadian authorities supplying the rest. The race was cancelled because of the anti-tobacco laws which came into effect in Canada this autumn.

The Canadian race is scheduled for June 13 next year, however, it is currently listed as provisional on the FIA calendar.
