Renault looks to China and the United States

Renault chairman Louis Schweitzer has told French radio that the company is planning to become a manufacturer of vehicles in China in the next few years and plans to announce its strategy for China next Spring. Schweitzer said that the recently announced $5,000 car to be built in Iran is going to be aimed primarily at the Iranian market where the company hopes to have sales of up to half a million cars.

Schweitzer also said that Renault has the long term goal of getting back into the US market although this is not expected until after 2010. Renault will lean heavily on the network set up in the United States by Nissan.
