Franchitti out for the season

Dario Franchitti is to miss the rest of the Indy Racing League races in order to sort out a problem with his back. Franchitti recently made his return to IRL after missing three races because he fractured his back in a motorcycle accident. He finished fourth on his return but has decided that it is wisest to step back this year, have more surgery and then come back when he is 100% next year. Franchitti has little chance of winning the IRL title this year because of the races he has missed. Franchitti made the decision after discussions with surgeon Dr. Terry Trammell.

Andretti Green Racing has not yet named a replacement driver but may ask Bryan Herta or Robby Gordon both of whom have acted as substitutes in the races to date.
