Japanese 1-2-3 at Indianapolis

Toyota and Honda swept all before them in the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday with Gil de Ferran just beating his Penske team mate Helio Castroneves in the two Toyota-engined Penske cars: de Ferran in a Panoz G Force and Castroneves in a Dallara and Tony Kanaan (Andretti Green Dallara-Honda). It is the first Japanese win at Indianapolis and a huge triumph for Toyota.

The race witnessed a variety of incidents not least a huge accident for rookie Dan Wheldon in the closing laps who went into the wall at Turn 1 and his car flipped after the first impact with the wall. The English driver escaped unhurt.
