Wandering HANS

The Union Internationale Motonautique is looking at adopting the HANS system for its Formula 1 Powerboats. The inventor of HANS, Dr. Robert Hubbert, attended a recent meeting of the UIM safety working group in Amsterdam and Ralf Froehling, UIM President, says that HANS "could be an invaluable device for racing powerboat drivers". Hubbert will be supplying three HANS devices at the first race of the season in Portimao, Portugal on May 4 and seven-times UIM World Champion Guido Cappellini has agreed to be one of the drivers who will test the device. Froehling says that if the tests are successful he will ask the UIM to make them compulsory in 2004.
