Another Hill

It seems that Formula 1 is rarely without someone called Hill. To date there have been three World Champions called Hill: America's Phil Hill in 1961, Britain's Graham Hill in 1962 and again in 1968. There was then a pause until 1996 when Graham's son Damon took his Williams-Renault to another title. Now Phil Hill's son Derek is making a serious bid to move up into F1.

Since 1999 Phil Hill's son Derek (27) has been racing in Europe, initially in Formula Palmer Audi in Britain but then in 2000 in the Italian Formula 3000 series. He graduated to the International Formula 3000 series in 2001 and despite a short program of races last year was able to make a positive impression with the Durango team. Hill has now signed for the Jordan Grand Prix Junior Team, which is the name this year of the Super Nova Racing team, which won the title last year with Sebastien Bourdais.

Hill will be partnered by Italian Enrico Toccacelo.
