Berger leaves immediately

Gerhard Berger has announced that he is stepping down from BMW Motorsport with immediate effect rather than waiting until the end of September when his contract runs out. The Munich company had previously suggested that Berger would stay on for the whole year but it seems that it was decided that a clean break was the best idea.
