Carlin and Saulnier head for Spain

The Telefonica World Series by Nissan, a rival championship to the International Formula 3000 series, has announced two major new signings for the 2003 series: Carlin Motorsport and Saulnier Racing.

Carlin Motorsport, formed in 1996 by Trevor Carlin and Martin Stone in 1996 has been the dominant force in British Formula 3 for the last few seasons while Saulnier Racing (previously known as Promatecme) has been one of the leading European Formula 3 teams for over a decade and has raced with success in both British and French Formula 3.

The announcement strengthens the Nissan series at a time when the FIA is trying to build up Formula 3000 as the feeder series to F1. The fact is that the Spanish-based series makes a lot more financial sense than Formula 3000, which is very expensive for those involved.
