Shanghai contract signing scheduled

As we reported Monday, Max Mosley flew to Shanghai to break ground on the new Formula One circuit to be built in the city. It now appears that Mosley will return with Bernie Ecclestone on October 20th to sign an agreement to hold a Grand Prix at the planned facility from 2004 to 2010.

The Hermann Tilke designed circuit will have accommodations for 200,000 spectators, and will include a theme park on the grounds. A new race in Bahrain was recently confirmed for 2004 as well, as F1 attempts to reach more globally. Currently, 11 of the 17 races on the calendar take place in Europe, including two races each in Italy and Germany.
