Fisher has fun

Indy Racing League star had a run in the McLaren spare car on Friday afternoon in Indianapolis and although the times were not very significant, the 21-year-old enjoyed herself during a three lap demonstration run for the fans at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Although there was much talk about Fisher being the first woman to drive a Formula 1 car since Giovanna Amati in 1992 it is not strictly true as Ireland's Sarah Kavanagh has been racing 1990s F1 cars for several years in the BOSS historic F1 series in Europe.

"It was fun," reported Fisher, "But I didn't get to light it up very much because I only had three laps. I don't see any reason why a female shouldn't be able to compete in Formula 1. There are many women athletes out there who are very good and very fast and can accomplish that."

Earlier this year Fisher became the first woman to take pole position in a major open-wheel championship in the United States and has finished in the top three in IRL races.
