Enge is Formula 3000 Champion - or is he?
Tomas Enge is the International Formula 3000 Champion - or at least he is at the moment. Enge finished third on the road at Monza, while his rival Sebastian Bourdais retired with a mechanical problem and Giorgio Pantano dropped from second to fourth in the course of a frenetic last lap after a Safety Car period following a spectacular accident involving Ricardo Mauricio.
The big question now is whether or not Enge will be punished for testing positive for an illegal substance after the recent race in Budapest. If Enge 's second tests positive it is inconceivable that he will not be punished in one way or another and so it is still possible that he could lose points and this could result in Bourdais being declared the champion.
The Monza race was won by Enge's team mate Bjorn Wirdheim, the Swede's first victory in the series.
