Silverstone bypass opens

The Silverstone bypass has finally been opened although for the moment there is still only going to be one lane operational in each direction. The new road has been planned for years as part of the scheme to make a faster link between the M1 and M40 motorways and to reduce the number of accidents that occur in the villages along the route of the existing A43. On average there are around 30,000 a day passing through the villages. The new road is important for the Silverstone racing circuit as it allows a large number of cars to come and go when the big events take place. The track has long been a traffic nightmare, particularly at the British Grand Prix.
