McLaren restructures technical team
McLaren has announced a new technical structure with Mike Coughlan becoming chief designer and Neil Oatley being promoted to a new role as Executive Director of Engineering, and John Sutton moves in from Jordan to become the team's head of transmission design. The team will continue to be overseen by technical director Adrian Newey.
Sutton has been at Jordan for just four months, prior to that having been employed by Ferrari. He joined the Italian team having learned the ropes at Williams.
It had been thought that Coughlan would not be able to join the team until the autumn but presumably Arrows's financial embarrassments of late have meant that the contract with the team terminated itself. Coughlan will join the team on September 2.
