Scheckter Jr. makes a breakthrough

Tomas Scheckter has been quick but erratic so far in his Indy Racing League career but his victory on Sunday at Michigan International Speedway marks his first major win of international note. The youngster, the son of 1979 World Champion Jody Scheckter, has been trying to draw attention to himself for some time after being bounced out of Formula 1 by Jaguar Racing.

Scheckter had to go to Spain to race in Formula Nissan to rebuild his career and this year headed off to the United States to team up with Eddie Cheever in the Red Bull Cheever Racing operation.

Scheckter's ambition is to return to F1 one day. It was worth noting that Buddy Rice, making his IRL debut with Red Bull Cheever Racing finished second.
