2003 BMW engine ahead of schedule

THE next generation BMW engine, scheduled to replace the currently successful P82, is ready ahead of schedule according to BMW Motorsport director Gerhard Berger. "We began to develop the engine for the 2003 season at the beginning of this year, and we will certainly be able to use it this season."

The new motor is not expected to see competition until next season, however. The team will use the extra time to further test and develop the unit, while the P82 will continue to power the Williams through the 2002 season.
