The FIA hires Piper to test sportscars

THE FIA Foundation has contracted the Piper International Design Group to conduct tests into the aerodynamic stability of flat bottom sportscars, following a number of track incidents in which cars have taken off and overturned. The report that will be produced will be used to decide what regulations should be adopted for sports car racing in the future.

The significant point of this is that it is the first high profile example of the work of the new FIA Foundation in relation to the sport. In fact there are several other programs ongoing at the moment, notably one related to how to stop the wheels of F1 cars coming off during crashes.
