Bourdais takes pole for Monaco F3000

SEBASTIEN BOURDAIS (Super Nova Racing) took pole position for the Formula 3000 race at Monaco, beating Rodrigo Sperafico (Durango Formula) to pole position by two-tenths of a second. There were 12 drivers within a second of pole position with Patrick Freisacher (Red Bull Junior Team) third quickest ahead of Enrico Toccacelo (Coloni), David Saelens (European Minardi), Bjorn Wirdheim and Tomas Enge (Arden International), Ricardo Sperafico (Petrobras Junior Team), Mario Haberfeld (Team Astromega) and Antonio Pizzonia (Petrobras Junior Team).

Australian Rob Nguyen continued to impress taking 11th on the grid in his Astromega car, despite having competed in only 14 races in his life... He was only a tenth of second slower than his team mate Haberfeld, a former British Formula 3 Champion who has been racing in Formula 3000 for three years.
