F1 to adopt HANS next year
THE Head and Neck Protection System (HANS) will become compulsory in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship and in Formula 3000 from the start of next season. The FIA says that the rule will be applied so long as it has confirmation from the teams that no driver will be at a disadvantage as a result of using the device. There is also the matter of concluding a licensing arrangement with DaimlerChrysler so that the HANS device can be used in all forms of international racing.
