Marlboro makes up for Ferrari defeat in Malaysia

SCUDERIA FERRARI MARLBORO may not have won this past weekend in Malaysia but the tobacco company is rarely out of the news in motor racing and a few hours after the defeat at Sepang, Marlboro Team Penske took a dominant 1-2 victory in the Indy Racing League event at Phoenix International Raceway, in Arizona, with Helio Castroneves and Gil de Ferran in dominant form in their Dallara-Chevrolets. The pair finished 2 seconds apart while title rival Sam Hornish Jr. was right with them in his Pennzoil-sponsored Panther Racing Dallara-Chevrolet. Hornish remains in the lead in the championship and might have beaten the Penske boys if he had not suffered a gearbox problem.

Al Unser Jr. had one of his best showings in recent years, finishing fifth in his Kelley Racing Dallara. The Chevrolet engines were again dominant in the race with the top 12 all using the engines. The only Infiniti-engined car to finish was former F1 driver Laurent Redon, who brought his Conquest Racing entry to the finish 31 laps behind.
