Turkey's F1 dreams
LAST summer there were stories that Turkey was trying to put together a bid to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix. At the time it looked as though it might be related to the FIA elections which were due in September. It was not surprising therefore when in October the new World Motor Sport Council featured Turkey's Mumtaz Tahincioglu.
The question now is whether or not the Turks can put together a deal which will attract the F1 circus.
A bill has now been submitted to the Turkish parliament requesting exemption for Formula 1 from the forthcoming tobacco advertising bill if the country manages to get a place on the F1 calendar.
The problem for Tahincioglu is that Turkey does not seem to care about the idea and finding money has been difficult.
