Wilson goes to California

FIA FORMULA 3000 champion Justin Wilson travelled to the final CART race at the California Speedway at the weekend, looking for a job in 2002.

The 24-year-old British racer, who had a dominant year in F3000 with Coca-Cola Nordic Racing has not been able to find any work in F1 although both his F3000 rivals Mark Webber and Tomas Enge seem to have deals for next year.

Wilson may have the opportunity to become test driver for Jordan Grand Prix but he lost out on the second Jordan drive to Japan's Takuma Sato. The fact that the British Formula 3 Champion was signed ahead of the International F3000 Champion is an indication of how significant Formula 3000 is nowadays.

It is a cause of further distress for Wilson that European Formula 3000 Champion Felipe Massa managed to get a job at Sauber, despite beating far less challenging opposition.
