Another American trying to make it in Europe
WHILE American attention was on Indianapolis and on the adventures of Patrick Long in the British Formula Ford Championship, last weekend marked the return to European competition of another US driver with ambitions to make it to F1 one day. Philip Giebler, who cut his teeth in European racing in France, took over one of the Duma Racing Dallaras in the British F3 series and did a creditable job at Silverstone. He qualified 10th, well ahead of his team mate who has been racing the cars all year, and finished the first race in ninth place. In the second race he was battling for seventh place with Mark Taylor when the British driver spun and took the American off with him.
Giebler hopes to find the budget for a full season of British F3 racing next year.
