Mansell confirms his European Minardi appearance

FORMER World Champion Nigel Mansell has confirmed that he will chauffeur guests around Donington Park on August 21 in the European Minardi F1x2 two-seater Formula 1 car.

The appearance of the 1992 Formula One World Champion and 1993 CART Indy car Champion will be a key component in the 'Thunder in the Park' event aimed at bringing Formula One closer to the fans.

As well as the rides to be given by Mansell and European Minardi team boss Paul Stoddart, there will be an autograph session, pit-lane walkabout, and demonstration runs by modern Formula One cars, with the finale being a simulated grid start and five-lap race between four of the two-seater European Minardi F1 cars.

"I often hear the complaint from motor racing fans that Formula One has become too inaccessible," said Stoddart. "The purpose of 'Thunder in the Park' is to try and remedy that in some small way, and we, at European Minardi, are more than pleased to be able to contribute to what is certain to be an exciting day for all those present. We are honored that Nigel has agreed to drive, I'm sure his presence, both on and off the circuit, will ensure this is a highly successful event. I'm really looking forward to demonstrating that Formula One remains 'fan-friendly'."
