Trulli in second Monza scare

THE second potentially disastrous failure of the three-day Monza test occurred today (Weds), when Jarno Trulli's Jordan suffered a rear wing breakage at the Variante Ascari.

Trulli was trying out a new rear wing designed for low downforce circuits such as Monza and Hockenheim, scene of next weekend's German Grand Prix. Although clearly effective - test driver Ricardo Zonta went fastest of all in the opening day's testing yesterday (Tues), clearly it still needs some work. "I just went off, and I was lucky not to crash," said the Italian.

Williams meanwhile - also featuring a new rear wing designed to make the most of the twisting 'stadium' section of the Hockenheim circuit - set the pace in the morning session of the test. Ralf Schumacher set a lap time of 1m 23.944s, 1.5s under last year's lap record at the Italian Grand Prix.
