Dubai thinking big

DUBAI, which is battling with its neighboring Gulf states to be the center of the tourist business in the region, and which is expected to bid for a Grand Prix, has just announced a major new program to build two resort islands, shaped like palm trees. The project aims to attract tourists and foreign investment. Dubai is trying to build up its tourist trade to bolster the countries fading oil revenues.

The plans include resorts, hotels and an additional 75 miles of beaches. The program will take around two years to complete and could include a racing circuit. The entire program will cost around $3bn.
