Schumacher to be first to wear new helmet?

WORLD CHAMPION Michael Schumacher could become the first driver to wear a radical new crash helmet developed by motor racing's governing body, the FIA.

The Ferrari driver's helmet supplier Schuberth are the first company to begin mass production of the new design, which is stronger and lighter than the current 'lids' used.

The FIA have carried out lengthy research on the new design with medical delegate Sid Watkins working on the safety designs of the helmet.

The governing body have funded the entire operation and have made the design of the new helmet available to all suppliers, of which Schuberth have become the first to start production.
