Stallone's "Driven" hammered by The Mummy
THE opening of Universal's "The Mummy Returns" over the weekend hammered receipts for Sylvester Stallone's racing movie "Driven". The Mummy pulled in a record-breaking $70m in three days to claim the all-time record for a non-holiday first weekend. The outright record remains with Jurassic Park which pulled in $72m during the Memorial Day weekend of 1997.
"Driven" was left to be the best of the rest with a miserable $6.1m, which hikes its total earnings in the last 10 days to $21m. This is respectable but with a number of big new movies due to open shortly, including the much-hyped new film "Pearl Harbor", Stallone may have to make do with a only a moderate success.
