...and Herbert agrees a deal with Forsythe/Zakspeed

THE word on the street in the United States of America is that Johnny Herbert will be joining Bryan Herta in the new Zakspeed Forsythe Racing team which is expected to run Reynard-Fords in all rounds of the CART series next year. The team will be based in the old Tasman Motorsport premises in Hilliard, Ohio from where the McDonalds-sponsored Forsythe Championship Racing organization was run in 1999. The team did not compete in 2000 because of arguments over franchises.

Herbert is understood to have landed the drive despite competition from German Jorg Muller, who has been trying to break into single-seaters having test driven for BMW and Michelin in recent years. In addition to his testing work in 2000 Muller drove for the BMW Motorsport team in the American Le Mans Series.

We hear, incidentally, that Herbert's pal and former double CART Champion Alex Zanardi will be back in CART next year, driving a second car for the Mo Nunn Racing organization.
